Ransomware is now aimed at the big end of town. And whereas the first versions relied on visits to websites, the modern versions use ‘phishing’ emails as the delivery vehicle.

“The common ones are the notices that you have a speeding ticket and would you like to see the speed camera shot,” says Ingram. “The other type are notifications from well-known courier companies that a parcel is waiting for you. You click on the link and the malware is released.”
